What is a good skincare routine?
Don’t we all know this scenario: all of a sudden a pimple pops up before an important event or you see those fine lines around the eyes for the first time... You then go for a hunt to buy the ‘best’ skincare to get rid of your concern overnight. You end up with a bathroom full of skincare but your concerns didn’t disappear? Sounds familiar, right?
Dr. Barbara Geusens, founder of Nomige, notices way too often that people go for the wrong make-up and skincare products. That is why she created Nomige, an effective and personalised skincare routine that only exists of 4 products and provides maximum benefit to your skin.
What to consider for a good skincare routine
Dr. Geusens firmly believes that it is almost impossible to create a one-fits-all product that attacks all your skin concerns. If you’re in your twenties, blessed with good genes and not living in a challenging environment where exposure to sun, pollution and extreme weather conditions are encountered, a single product such as sunscreen may be enough for you. But, these are quite a few criteria, don’t you think?
The ageing process is unstoppable and could use some support to maintain your skin in good condition. Carefully selected anti-ageing ingredients in your skincare products can contribute to that. Watch our skintip and learn more about skin ageing in general.

Consider this when mixing and matching skincare from different brands. As you shouldn’t mix Tonic with Baileys, the same goes sometimes for your skincare. If you’ve ever experienced more severe acne, your doctor may have recommended benzoyl peroxide cream. Did you know that benzoyl peroxide and vitamins counteract each other? Benzoyl peroxide has an oxidizing function to clean clogged pores. Vitamins C and E are anti-oxidants that basically work against oxidants. So, when these vitamins get oxidized by benzoyl peroxide, they will lose their properties and they no longer benefit your skin.
Also, don't layer vitamin C with an anti-ageing peptide cream or probiotic skincare with preservative-containing products. These combinations can easily inactivate the function of one another.
We gave you just some of many examples of why you should carefully compose your skincare in order to get the most out of your products.
Another useful tip is to obtain information by looking at the ingredient list. A rather ‘good’ skincare product mostly contains between 10-30 ingredients. Ingredients are not only chosen based on their activity on your skin, but also because of their ability to enhance the effect of an active ingredient, ensure stability, prevent microbial contamination, etc.

Effective skincare routine by Nomige
WHY IT EXISTS OUT OF 4 PRODUCTS?

Nomige’s first order always consists of 4 products: day serum, day cream (lifestyle cream), night serum and night cream. Each product benefits your skin in a unique way as it is tailored to your DNA-profile. Some may say 4 products are a lot to use every day, while others are surprised that you don’t really need much more. Here’s how a Nomige skincare routine is compiled.
Ingredients do not counteract
As we touched on the fact that ingredients can counteract each other, you now understand the importance of the right cocktail of ingredients. The advantage of Nomige products is that active ingredients are divided over the 4 products to achieve maximum activity and stability of the product. In this way, Nomige is able to apply a more targeted approach as each product focusses on something different such as collagen production, antioxidant protection and hydration.

With only 4 products, Nomige takes into account exposure to UV-rays and pollution, skin type, lifestyle, and a predisposition for ageing (derived from DNA)
Airless packaging
Nomige uses airless packaging for every product. This in contrast to products that are filled in a jar so that when you remove the lid, ingredients are exposed to air, light and contamination which can negatively impact the ingredients and the overall effect of the product. The advantage of our packaging is that you’ll be able to see when your product is almost running out as the packaging gets thinner. You can easily cut through it so you can enjoy the last bit of product that is left.
By using a limited number of effective products, you’ll have a better overview of your routine so you’ll know when to purchase new ones without having to throw anything away.
Saving time
As time is precious, spending long hours in the bathroom for your skincare routine rather than cooking, reading or cuddle with your loved one is not necessary. That is why using 2 products in the morning and 2 in the evening can save time to spend on your daily activities.
Combining Nomige with other products
VITAMIN A
Dr. Geusens herself is a fan of retinol which is a derivative of vitamin A as it has been supported by studies to have an anti-ageing effect on the skin. However, Nomige does not include vitamin A as it is effective for any skin type, which does not fit the personalised concept of Nomige. Also, it is not always well-tolerated by everybody (sensitive skin, pregnant women, etc.).
You can easily combine it with Nomige products. Just add it in the last step of your evening ritual, after applying the night serum.

VITAMIN C
In the Nomige day serum, vitamin C is already included in combination with other antioxidants such as superoxide dismutase. Using additional vitamin C is not really necessary in terms of protection against UV rays and pollution.
If you want to add a high concentration pure vitamin C product to Nomige skincare. Preferably use it in the morning and mix it with your day serum.
