Age perfect skincare: 30’S

Skin aging is a very complex process that is influenced by both internal factors (your DNA) and external factors (such as the sun, pollution, weather conditions, smoking...). Every skin is unique and the same can be said of the ageing process.  Although, there are certain changes and ageing signs that occur frequently within a certain age range. Therefore, it can be useful to switch your skin care routine over the years. In this blog, we list the most important changes, ageing signs and associated skincare tips for your 30’s.

Keep in mind that this is NOT a fixed guideline! For example, certain tips are described for 20's, but remain useful for other age categories as well. So definitely take a look at the other blogs: 20's40's and 50's. Moreover, everyone ages in a different way and one tip will be more applicable to you than the other

Different skincare for different ages

Should you change your skincare routine when you grow older? The answer is, yes, to a certain extent - watch this skintip to find out more and get some insights by Dr. Barbara Geusens.

Skincare in your 30's

Skin ageing is a natural process that starts around the age of 25 but signs will not visible be until around the age of 35. So around ‘your thirties’ it is the ideal moment to start using anti-ageing ingredients.

EXFOLIATE YOUR SKIN

Unfortunately the answer to that question is ‘yes’. Skin burned by the sun or a tanning bed is permanently damaged. Every time your skin gets burned, skin cells are damaged and the body has to repair that damage. The more often and deeper the skin gets burned, the more serious the damage and the bigger the risk the damage cannot be repaired successfully.  These damaged cells are a type of scars deep in the skin which, in the long run, may give rise to skin cancer.

Research has shown that the tanned skin of Caucasian people equals no more than SPF 5. So despite the brown colour the skin may still burn and suffer DNA damage. This means the risk of skin cancer and skin ageing is still present. Moreover, small tumours on the skin can be harder to detect on tanned skin so the diagnosis often comes too late. So always be careful even if you do have tanned skin.

RETINOL CURE

Vitamin A is a popular ingredient in fighting acne, reducing wrinkles, stimulating collagen and stimulating cell turnover. Vitamin A exists in different forms. On the one hand there is tretinoin, the most effective form of vitamin A, which is only available on prescription. On the other hand, there is Retinol, a less effective form of vitamin A, developed by cosmetic companies as an anti-ageing ingredient. Retinol has positive effects on the skin and can be used in your 30's to reduce signs of aging. Just note that there are some drawbacks that you should definitely take into account:

  • It’s an unstable ingredient that oxidizes quickly. Look for products with a light and airless packaging.
  • Retinol products containing 0.3 % or a lower concentration are not effective.
  • Retinol may have an irritating effect on your skin.
  • Do not use vitamin A derivatives when you are pregnant or want to become pregnant.
  • Use it as a cure, not permanently!
  • Complete a cure during winter. Vitamin A derivates make your skin more sensitive for the sun and should therefore not be applied during the summer.

THE BEST TIP FOR EVERY AGE: personalised products

In this blog we described some important skincare tips for during your 30’s. Even though there are certain signs of aging that are common and ingredients with a broad anti-ageing effect, it is impossible to give a guideline that applies to everyone.  Everyone 'ages' in a different way. It is therefore not a surprise that "tailor-made" skin care is the future within the beauty world!

Nomige is an innovative and tailor-made skincare brand that examines your specific risks of skin ageing by taking both your DNA and lifestyle into account. Once we know what your risks are, we can act much more specifically on your needs

Nomige Package

€499,00

Nomige offers an Exclusive package consisting of 4 personalized products. Three of them are based on your DNA profile, where we investigate genes involved in the skin aging process. We examine the risks (so-called 'mutations') in your DNA and take them into account when formulating your products. The fourth product, the day cream, is formulated based on your lifestyle. For example, during pregnancy, changes occur in your body's hormone production. This may cause impurities or pigment spots on your skin. This is normal and can be treated! Another common lifestyle factor that can affect the condition of your skin is stress. By means of a questionnaire, we gauge certain lifestyle factors and select ingredients for your day cream that specifically act on them.
