Before anything else, you can recognize a dry skin by redness, flakes or chunks. Especially after taking a shower or bath you will notice this. Your skin is weakened, feels like it is going to crack and is in need of extra care.
First of all avoid long or hot showering or bathing. It sounds contradictory, but too much water is bad for a dry skin. It dries out even more. You can hydrate your skin from the inside. Drink plenty of water. Or increase the humidity in your home by using a humidifier or hanging moisture trays on your radiator.
