Fillers

Unfortunately, as we get older, more and more wrinkles appear on the skin. Old age comes with a price tag and you can take that literally. What can we do best? We asked a dermatologist
Dr. Fraipont .
In the interview below, she explains how fillers can promote skin rejuvenation.

Fillers and skin rejuvenation

Dr. Fraipont: "Under the influence of external and internal factors , the skin ages over time. With age, wrinkles appear, the skin becomes drier and there is a loss of elasticity. The dermis - the part of the skin where collagen , elastin and hyaluronic acid - loses these important structural components with age, causing sagging and wrinkling . "

Dr. Fraipont: "When the media talks about injections to look younger, it is often about muscle relaxants, wrinkle fillers or corrections of volume loss, but little is written about real skin rejuvenation. However, there are also injections to rejuvenate the skin itself by by means of hyaluronic acid. This is then injected over the entire face and not just locally."

ARE FILLERS PERMANENT?

Dr. Fraipont: "I often get the question why there are no products that are permanent. Permanent fillers used to exist, but they often entail problems that are also permanent. That is why we now mainly work with hyaluronic acid. time shortened and this is not always so bad. People who regret, for example, a lip augmentation know that it is gone after a year."

"In practice, we use stabilized hyaluronic acid . This is only broken down after several months and therefore gives a long-lasting result, in contrast to unstabilized hyaluronic acid, which is broken down after just a few days. The treatment differs depending on the brand used by the doctor. work with a start-up phase of 3 treatments with 1 month in between and then a maintenance treatment of 2 treatments per year."

WHAT IS HYALURONIC ACID AND HOW DOES IT WORK?

Dr. Fraipont: "Hyaluronic acid retains water and is contained in our skin, but with age our level of hyaluronic acid decreases. By injecting it in the right place, the skin will be better hydrated again and fine wrinkles will fade, but the injections of hyaluronic acid in the dermis also cause your fibroblasts to produce more collagen, so the injections actually have an effect on both the hyaluronic acid content and the collagen content of your skin. The injections provide a clear improvement in skin quality, skin elasticity and hydration. "

THERAPY

"The entire face is treated , which is quite a lot of injections. An anesthetic cream is applied beforehand that makes the injections less painful. Possible side effects of the treatment are small bruises. Very exceptionally, your body may not respond well, because the is not your own hyaluronic acid being injected."

AGE

"The treatment can actually be started quite young, even in people in their twenties. If you start young, you counteract skin aging. So starting early is actually a good idea, but in my practice the youngest patients are mainly people in their thirties who notice the first wrinkles. There is no maximum age to start. I also have a few fit people in their eighties who are coming!"

What's the price tag?

Dr. Fraipont: "The price depends on the amount injected and that depends on the condition of your skin. If you look at it in the long term and look at the costs of the 2 treatments per year on an annual basis, it comes to 40-60 euros per month."
