What is a DNA analysis?
A DNA skin analysis is a very objective analysis of your skin. Your genes don’t lie and they do not change.
So no more ‘guessing’ what skin type you have.
By examining your DNA, we gain more insights into your skin and skin ageing process. In the lab we analyse several genes involved in collagen homeostasis, antioxidant protection, barrier function and skin hydration. Based on your DNA profile, we know what risks you are carrying. We also give advice on which products and ingredients are best for your skin so that they can counteract these risks.
You can still purchase the Nomige products at a later stage, and on the basis of this report.
Your personalised skin DNA report:
- Based on your lifestyle and DNA
- Insights into your ‘true’ skin type
- A guide to keep your skin ageing-resistant
- A clear explanation of the ingredients your skin need
Are you curious about your risk profile?
DO THE TEST
By using a 'Do It Yourself' DNA kit, you can collect your own DNA. Simply rub the inside of your cheek with a cotton swab to collect your saliva. Carefully follow the instructions for use. If necessary, you can easily store your sample at room temperature for a few weeks before sending it back to us.
Once we receive your sample, and after your explicit permission, we will investigate your DNA in a certified laboratory. We determine your genetic skin profile by investigating different genes involved in the main skin properties. We identify the presence of mutations in these genes and inform you about your risk for accelerated skin aging.
We handle your privacy
We handle your genetic material with the utmost care. Nomige is committed to guaranteeing the security and confidentiality of your personal information. We take all the necessary security measures to enable us to offer protection against loss or misuse of your information. We use procedural, physical and electronic security measures designed to prevent unauthorised individuals from gaining access to that information.
How your DNA affects the ageing of your skin
By examining your DNA, we can gain more insights into your skin ageing process. In the lab we analyse several genes involved in collagen homeostasis, antioxidant protection, barrier function and skin hydration. Based on your DNA profile, we know what risks you are carrying and we develop products whose ingredients can counteract these risks.
Collagen is the most important structural protein of the extracellular matrix and is responsible for the firmness and elasticity of your skin. Collagen is created every time your skin renews itself (every 28 days). Sufficient production of collagen contributes to a beautiful and tighter skin.
Collagen is also broken down, this is a natural process. Breakdown or degradation can be accelerated under the influence of external stress factors such as UV light. It activates enzymes like matrix metalloproteinases (MMP) that 'eat away' the collagen. The balance between collagen production and degradation determines the velocity of the skin aging process.
When MMP genes show mutations or errors, they are "overactive" and break down collagen even faster. This creates an imbalance towards faster collagen breakdown which negatively affects the firmness and elasticity of your skin. We investigate mutations in different MMP genes and determine your risk of accelerated collagen degradation.
Tissue damage by free radicals is one of the main causes of accelerated skin ageing. Free radicals are formed due to external stress factors, such as tobacco, pollution or exposure to UV radiation.
We have a natural 'built-in' protection mechanism since our skin itself produces antioxidants that can neutralise free radicals before they cause damage. But when this defensive mechanism does not function properly, traces of skin aging will be more visible.
Nomige investigates how well your defense mechanism works by detecting mutations in the antioxidant genes such as superoxide dismutase (SOD-2) and glutathione peroxidase (GPX).
A well hydrated skin shows less wrinkles and is often less prone to irritation. A sensitive skin is the result of a disturbed skin barrier; one of which the intercellular lipids have some defects. As a result, not only irritants or allergens can penetrate the skin (from the outside to the inside), but water can also easily evaporate from the skin (from the inside to the outside). If this happens, skin dehydration occurs.
In addition, the moisture balance is also determined by molecules that can attract and transport water. Defects in these molecules also lead to a disturbed moisture balance and result in a dry, dehydrated skin.
Nomige investigates whether you have mutations in the genes that help keep the skin barrier intact and help control the moisture balance; namely Fillagrin (FLG) and Aquaporin-3 (AQ3)
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
The factors I have chosen on a genetic level can be divided into 4 important biological processes; properties that characterise healthy skin;
- antioxidant capacity
- elasticity & wrinkles
- intact skin barrier
Within each biological process, we examine the genes that contribute to these elements and are responsible for it (e.g. the genes that are important in the hydration process). We then investigate whether or not these genes have defects. If that is the case, you carry a higher risk. It is up to the Nomige products to adjust these defects via specific ingredients.
Although we strive to develop formulas suitable for sensitive and allergic skin, it is not possible to offer a 100% guarantee. There are so many different allergens that it is almost impossible to take all of these into account. From your DNA you can deduce whether you carry a risk for an (over) sensitivity, yet it is not possible to specify on which substances you will or will not react.
- We make tailormade products; personalised based on your DNA and lifestyle
- Ingredients with high 'in vivo' concentrations
- You receive 4 products for a complete treatment
- A solution for all your skin problems
The Nomige package is tailor-made. You receive 4 personalised products based on your DNA and lifestyle. These products will last you 3 to 4 months.
The cost of the DNA analysis is included in the price. You only have to do this analysis once.
On average you will receive your DNA results 2-3 weeks after we have received your DNA sample. We will send the DNA report via e-mail. From then on you can always consult your results in your personal account on the website.
