
De wetenschap achter de huid
Lang voor de oprichting van Nomige, was Dr. Barbara Geusens actief als huidwetenschapper. Haar academische carrière begon aan de Universiteit Gent, waar ze zich specialiseerde in dermatologisch onderzoek. Haar werk focuste op de ontwikkeling van innovatieve technologieën om actieve stoffen doelgericht in de huid te brengen – met bijzondere aandacht voor genetische therapieën zoals siRNA. Zo leverde ze baanbrekend onderzoek af op het snijvlak van geneeskunde, farmacie en huidverzorging.
Internationale samenwerking en publicaties in topvakbladen
Dr. Geusens werkte samen met toonaangevende wetenschappers in binnen- en buitenland, waaronder aan Queensland University in Australië. Ze publiceerde haar bevindingen in hoog aangeschreven wetenschappelijke tijdschriften zoals Advanced Functional Materials, Journal of Investigative Dermatology en Journal of Controlled Release. Daarin beschreef ze onder andere hoe liposomale nanodeeltjes kunnen worden ingezet om pigmentatieprocessen in de huid te beïnvloeden – een techniek die vandaag nog steeds vooruitstrevend is.

Erkend expert in dermatologisch onderzoek
Haar expertise leidde niet alleen tot wetenschappelijke artikels, maar ook tot uitnodigingen als spreker op internationale congressen in onder andere Japan, de Verenigde Staten, het Verenigd Koninkrijk en de Verenigde Arabische Emiraten. Ze gaf ook leiding aan diverse onderzoeksprojecten en begeleidde jonge onderzoekers bij het ontwikkelen van nieuwe therapieën voor huidaandoeningen zoals hyperpigmentatie en psoriasis. Haar pionierswerk op vlak van niet-invasieve toedieningsvormen wordt vandaag beschouwd als richtinggevend binnen de dermatologische wetenschappen.

Van lab naar praktijk: de wetenschappelijke basis van Nomige
De kennis die Dr. Geusens opdeed als onderzoeker vormt de wetenschappelijke ruggengraat van Nomige. De inzichten uit haar jarenlange onderzoek naar huidstructuur, genetische variatie en transdermale technologieën werden vertaald naar gepersonaliseerde huidverzorging op maat van het DNA van de gebruiker. Wat ooit begon in het labo, kreeg via Nomige een tastbare en innovatieve toepassing in het dagelijkse leven.
