Skincare meets makeup

During the interview both dr. Barbara Geusens and Florence Teerlinck agree that bad skincare and make-up can damage your skin. while products selected with care will bring out its inner glow.

Like Florence said: 'Your skin is like a white canvas. Just like a painter starts with a plain canvas, a make-up artist starts with a smooth skin in order to get the best result.' Even the best make-up (= the paint) won't give a perfect result when your skin (= the white canvas) isn't treated well. And vice versa. Cheap make up or harsh removing methods might ruin the result of good skincare.

The importance of cleansing

A good cleansing routine is more important than some people know. Even after a day without any make-up, your skin will have dirt on it because of external factors such as pollution, UV radiation,… AA daily cleanse will reduce impurities and will help the active ingredients in skincare products to penetrate deep into your skin

A good cleansing routine contains:

  • A milky or oily cleanser: Choose a mild, gentle cleanser with oil in it, otherwise the dirt won't come off your face.
  • Exfoliating tonic: This water-based cleansing product will remove the remaining dirt and dead skin cells. It prevents your pores from being blocked and so impurities don't stand a chance.

Products that should NOT be part of your daily cleansing routine:

  • Tissues or pads with alcohol: Those will 'strip' your skin and make it sensitive.
  • Daily scrub: This will damage the skin structure. Choose a gentle and mild cleanser instead. If you want any advice, make sure to contact us .

Natural beauty: the essentials

In the morning, we're all in a hurry. The shorter your makeup routine, the better. You actually don't need a lot of makeup to look good. It's just a matter of knowing the key points of where to apply make-up.

The essentials of Florence and Barbara

  • Tinted day cream or light foundation
  • Concealer
  • Highlighter, for the more advanced
  • blush
  • Mascara
  • Lipstick/lip gloss

When selecting makeup products, look for:

  • Cruelty free and organic products
  • Mineral makeup if you have sensitive skin
  • Make-up products that also take 'care' of your skin. Not only 'paint' your skin
  • your make-up also has SPF

But first start with the basics: good skin care

Every skin is different and needs a different approach. People having darker skin for example benefit from a natural protection. Then there are other people suffering from oxidative stress which will cause faster skin ageing. It is important to know what your skin really needs.

In short, knowledge = key . Our genes are the base of your skin's features and determine how your skin will age. Nomige investigates if there are “defects” in your genes and adjusts with active ingredients if necessary.
